Gingivitis is a common problem. In fact, it affects about 90% of all adults at one time or another, and it affects many children too. But, even though many people have gingivitis, there are some people who are especially prone to getting it. These include:
- Pregnant Women- Pregnancy gingivitis is common. Bleeding gums come with it because of increased blood flow that occurs all over the body. However, the body is also more sensitive to the bacteria and plaque in the mouth during pregnancy. Pregnancy gingivitis requires diligent oral hygiene to keep the plaque at bay. Left untreated, pregnancy gingivitis can cause pre-term labor.
- Diabetics – An inability to control blood sugar can lead to gingivitis, and gingivitis, in turn, can cause blood sugar to be more difficult to control. So, it’s critical that diabetics have a strict oral hygiene routine and that you visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings.
- People with Heart Disease – Gum disease and heart disease are closely linked. It’s very important that you take good care of your mouth to prevent heart disease. If you’ve already been diagnosed with heart disease, work with your dentist and your doctor for a treatment plan for both problems.
Minimizing gingivitis requires the same diligence for everyone. Brush at least twice a day, and floss at least once. Use a mouthwash several times a day to kill bacteria below the gum line where your brush and floss cannot reach. Visit your dentist twice a year for cleanings and checkups. And, work with your doctor to manage your other health concerns.
Try using natural oral care products made from oil of mint. Oil of mint is one of the most powerful anti-fungals and anti-bacterials you can use. It easily kills the bacterium that causes gingivitis. And, when you use all natural oil of mint dental care products, you avoid the risk that comes from using commercial dental care products. Commercial toothpastes contain detergent and commercial mouthwashes often contain alcohol. Neither of these ingredients is necessary to good oral hygiene. And, in fact, they can create additional problems.
How can gingivitis be treated? Take good care of your mouth on a daily basis and work with your dentist for a good preventive plan or treatment plan for gingivitis. Work with your doctor to manage other health problems, and stick with natural oral care products whenever possible. Then, regardless of the problems you have, you’ll know that you’re doing all you can to stay healthy.
