The nations borrowing slowing down

The national debt charity Credit action has revealed that while individuals are still borrowing money the actual rate of borrowing has slowed down. With personal debts in the UK totalling over 1,400 billion by March 2009 this is a huge sum of money to be paid back. Many of course struggle to repay their unsecured debts such as from credit cards and unsecured loans; however there are steps that anyone can take towards reducing and eventually paying off their share of debt and one of these is to consider a debt management plan

Its a frightening thought when you consider that during the month of March alone the rate of personal debt increased by 1 million every hour. However even more astonishing was the fact that in Jan 2008 this amount of debt was increased every 5 minutes! Without mortgages being taken into account it is thought that on average each household holds debt of over 9,000. This is just from credit card, unsecured loans, and catalogue and store card debt.

Is there any wonder that so many individuals struggle to repay their debts each and every month?

HOW do I get involved?

  1. Attend the 2002 ECASU Conference (check out www.ecasu2002.org)
  2. Become a Regional Representative for the ECASU National Board, or become your institution’s School Liaison

*Those interested in a Regional Representative position must attend an informational session concerning the National Board (Saturday morning of the conference) as well as the National Board elections (Saturday afternoon of the conference).

YOU can be the FUTURE of ECASU. Get involved!

WHAT can ECASU do in the FUTURE?

In the coming years, we hope the National Board grows into an even stronger vehicle for Asian American organizations along the East Coast. Specific projects for the future may include further ECASU history research, gaining non-profit status, and becoming a resource for building Ethnic Studies and Asian American Studies Programs.

If you want to make an impact on the Asian American community on the east coast, or have ideas you would like ECASU to pursue, please consider being a part of the ECASU National Board or a School Liaison. Being a part of the ECASU National Board requires dedication, responsibility, patience, as well as traveling. However, it is an invaluable experience, and a wonderful way to become directly involved with the Asian American Student Movement.

WHAT has ECASU done this year?

This year’s board has focused on rebuilding roots and extending the founding principles of ECASU. In addition to coalition and communication building efforts, we compiled an extensive directory of Asian American Student Organizations along the east coast, restructured ECASU, wrote a new constitution and guidelines, begun research on ECASU’s 25 year history, and begun developments for gaining non-profit status.

WHAT is ECASU?

ECASU was found in the late 1970s to develop a vehicle to increase communication and provide mutual support to Asian American organizations across campus. ECASU has grown into a powerful forum and channel for Asian and Asian American issues and activism. Moreover, ECASU has helped campuses institute Asian American Weeks, increased Asian American student awareness and participation, coordinated investigations into college usage of quotas limiting Asian American admissions, established Asian American Studies programs, and combated racism; ECASU has consistently stood for the interests of Asian American students.
